Thing 20 - Libraries and Social Networks

I looked at a few library MySpace pages. Libraries are including contests, blogs, videos, access to catalog and reference services, book lists, etc. on there pages. Social Networks can be a great way to reach teens.

It's very important that the pages be updated and maintained. Along with the good, I found links to closed surveys or internal sites that no longer exist, links blocked due to possible SPAM, phishing or virus, confusing layouts and blogs that were rarely updated.

Social Networks can make the library more relevant to teens but could have the opposite effect if the library's page is frustrating to use or out of date.
