Thing 2 - What is Library 2.0
Finding time is always difficult. Abram's advise to view the 23 things as enjoyable and self empowering helps motivate me to find 15 minute blocks of time. I'm pretty familiar with most of the 23 things. I have myspace and flickr accounts, but this gives me a reason try out tools that I've been ignoring.
Comments on the readings:
- Anderson (Web 2.0 Where will it take libraries?) states that reliance on user education is a significant threat to future success. I think that it's important that libraries not only embrace new technologies but also make sure that interfaces to the catalog and databases are user friendly.
- Blyberg brought up that IT functions have moved from being supporting mechanisms to becoming an important part of how the library is viewed by the public. L2 is about being relevant. As more and more people access libraries remotely, libraries need to eliminate barriers such as overuse of library terminology.
- An interesting point was made in "The Ongoing Web Revolution". Trust and participation is key to success. Staff needs to feel secure of managerial support.
